Despite significant investments in warehouse automation and sophisticated transportation planning systems, Yard Management Systems (YMS) continue to lag in adoption within the supply chain sector. While warehouse management systems (WMS) and transportation management systems (TMS)
boast adoption rates of 49% and 27% respectively, only 16% of companies currently utilize a YMS, with merely 9% planning to evaluate or upgrade one in the next two years. Many companies still rely on manual methods such as clipboards, spreadsheets, or basic gate management functions within larger WMS or ERP systems to manage yard activities. This reliance on outdated practices creates a significant technology gap at the critical juncture between warehousing and transportation.

The underutilization of YMS poses substantial risks and inefficiencies across the U.S. supply chain.
