Sicona Battery Technologies has received a $45 million grant from the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) to establish a silicon-carbon battery anode material production facility in Wollongong. The facility will produce up to 230 tonnes of Sicona's
SiCx® material annually, which enhances lithium-ion battery performance by increasing energy density and charging speed. The project is part of a collaboration with BlueScope Steel Limited to potentially develop the facility within BlueScope's Port Kembla precinct. This initiative aims to strengthen Australia's position in the global battery supply chain and support the growth of domestic battery manufacturing capabilities.
