What's Happening?
The Port of Cleveland, in partnership with Milo Harbour Inc., has announced plans to launch a new cross-lake truck ferry service between Northeast Ohio and Southern Ontario. This initiative aims to provide a reliable maritime alternative to the congested
highway and rail networks, particularly the Windsor-Detroit gateway, which handles a significant portion of Canada-U.S. trade. The service, expected to begin in early 2028, will facilitate up to 300 round-trip truckloads per day across Lake Erie, offering a competitive transit time of two to three hours. The project is designed to improve supply-chain resilience and reduce highway congestion by shifting long-haul truck traffic onto the Great Lakes.
