Tanzania is undertaking significant infrastructure investments to transform Kigoma into a strategic logistics and commercial gateway. President Samia Suluhu Hassan's administration is focusing on linking Tanzania with key markets in East and Central Africa,
including the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Burundi, and Zambia. This initiative includes the construction of the 506-kilometer Tabora-Kigoma Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) and the introduction of modern cargo vessels on Lake Tanganyika. These projects aim to enhance freight movement, improve transport safety, and reduce costs, thereby strengthening trade between Tanzania and its neighboring countries.
