Uber has adopted a new approach to utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) by embedding its top AI engineers within various departments such as finance, legal, and human resources. This initiative, referred to as 'Agentic Pods,' involves engineers working
closely with department employees to understand their tasks and create AI agents to automate and improve these processes. Over the past two months, Uber has implemented 16 such pods, resulting in significant time savings for tasks like financial pacing reports and capital allocation. Despite the increased spending on AI, Uber's Chief Operating Officer, Andrew Macdonald, has expressed concerns about the return on investment, as the spending has not yet translated into a proportional increase in consumer features.
