What's Happening?
UK Finance, in collaboration with major banks including Barclays, HSBC, Lloyds Banking Group, Nationwide Building Society, NatWest Group, and Santander, is developing a digital verification service aimed at simplifying and securing online identity verification.
This initiative seeks to reduce the need for customers to repeatedly provide physical documents for identity verification by allowing them to use their banking apps to share verified information securely. The service is designed to enhance trust, control, and privacy, allowing customers to choose what information to share and with whom, based on explicit consent. The project has completed its proof-of-concept phase and is moving towards a live pilot in a controlled environment.
