This technology, developed by SkyCool Systems based on Stanford research, reflects 97% of incoming sunlight while emitting heat in the 8-13 micron infrared band, where the atmosphere is largely transparent. Target began testing these panels in 2021 and plans to install them at 16 more sites in 2026.
