What's Happening?
BAE Systems is progressing with the development of its Future Combat Air Demonstrator (FCAD), a critical component of the Global Combat Air Program (GCAP), which involves the UK, Italy, and Japan. The demonstrator is approximately 75% complete, with major
structural sections in production for the past 12-18 months. The FCAD is designed to test new engineering and manufacturing approaches, aiming for a rollout by the end of 2027. The aircraft features advanced design elements, such as deep internal weapons bays and modified engine nozzles, to enhance its capabilities. BAE is also working on securing military airworthiness certification and plans to use the demonstrator for additional research objectives, including low-observability techniques and missile launch trials.
