The European Union is evaluating new regulations for satellite access within the 2 GHz spectrum band. This proposal aims to reserve one-third of this band for local European companies, a move intended to strengthen the region's satellite services. Major
European mobile operators, including Deutsche Telekom, Orange, Vodafone, and Telefónica, are reportedly in discussions to form a consortium. This consortium would bid on satellite spectrum to offer direct-to-mobile services, potentially creating a significant competitor to Elon Musk’s Starlink.
