The U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command Chemical Biological Center (DEVCOM CBC) has developed a technology known as Advanced Sealing-Interface Surveillance Technology (ASIST), originally intended to eliminate human error in military protective
equipment. This technology is now being adapted for use in sports safety gear, specifically in the form of a smart chin strap for football helmets. The technology ensures that helmets are properly secured, reducing the risk of concussions from dislodged helmets during high-impact collisions. Saturn Sports, a company founded by Hank Veeneman and Brayden Shepard, has secured a patent license to develop this technology for athletic use. The smart chin strap provides real-time feedback on helmet security, alerting training staff if the strap is not properly fastened.
