What's Happening?
Cape Town Tourism (CTT) has initiated a series of Destination Intelligence workshops aimed at helping tourism and hospitality operators better utilize the data they collect. According to CTT, more than half of the data collected by South African businesses
remains unanalyzed, with companies typically using only about a third of the information they gather. The workshops are designed to provide practical tools for turning booking, visitor, and customer data into actionable insights for marketing, operations, and business planning. This initiative follows a member engagement session where DirectAxis CEO Yasmin Abrahams emphasized the importance of using existing data effectively rather than collecting more. The workshops will be rolled out in the coming weeks, with content shaped by feedback from CTT members.
Why It's Important?
The workshops are significant as they aim to enhance the competitiveness of Cape Town's tourism sector by leveraging data more effectively. By transforming raw data into actionable insights, businesses can improve decision-making, optimize operations, and tailor marketing strategies to better meet customer needs. This initiative is expected to strengthen the tourism economy, create jobs, and provide new opportunities for local businesses. The use of data is crucial for planning future growth, responding to changing visitor needs, and unlocking new business opportunities, thereby contributing to a more resilient tourism sector.
What's Next?
CTT plans to share details of the workshops with its members soon, and businesses can access CTT's Destination Intelligence repository as a starting resource. The workshops will provide practical support to help businesses turn information into action, making data work for them. This initiative is expected to foster innovation and improve competitiveness within the tourism sector, ultimately contributing to a stronger local economy.
