During a baseball game between the Baltimore Orioles and the Detroit Tigers, a squirrel caused a significant disruption by exploring the field. The squirrel, described as having a melanistic colorway, initially appeared on the warning track and later
ventured into foul territory. Despite attempts by the Orioles' third base coach to feed it sunflower seeds, the squirrel continued to explore the field, eventually prompting the grounds crew to intervene. The crew, along with right fielder Leody Taveras, attempted to capture the squirrel, which led to a comical chase. Taveras inadvertently flipped the squirrel into the air while trying to catch it. Eventually, the squirrel was captured and removed from the field, much to the disappointment of the crowd, who had started chanting in support of the squirrel.
