His experience in developing new products and expanding beyond traditional American whiskey to include spirits like rum demonstrates a commitment to innovation that could influence broader market trends. The transition also highlights the importance of mentorship within the industry, with Smith having worked under the guidance of veteran distiller Steve Nally. This ensures continuity in expertise while bringing fresh perspectives to production and product development, potentially impacting the availability and variety of spirits for U.S. consumers.
What's Next?
In his new role, Nick Smith will be responsible for the production across Bardstown Bourbon Company, Green River Whiskey, and Lofted Custom Spirits. Steve Nally, as Master Distiller Emeritus, will continue to serve as an ambassador for Lofted Spirits and Kentucky Bourbon throughout the United States. The company recently celebrated filling its one millionth barrel since distillation began in 2016, indicating a strong growth trajectory that Smith will now lead.
