What's Happening?
Kith has undertaken a significant project with BMW, fitting a 2000 model X5 with a naturally aspirated 5.0-litre S85 V10 engine and a six-speed manual gearbox, originally used in the E60 M5 and E63 M6. This marks the first time this drivetrain has been
installed in an SUV. The X5 retains its factory all-wheel-drive system and features a custom instrument cluster and Kith branding. The vehicle underwent a year-long, full rotisserie restoration, emphasizing both homage to its original form and enhanced driving performance. The project is part of a showcase at the BMW Villa in Pebble Beach during Monterey Car Week.
Why It's Important?
This ambitious project underscores the potential for creative collaborations between fashion brands and automotive manufacturers. By integrating a high-performance engine into the X5, Kith demonstrates a commitment to innovation and craftsmanship, appealing to car enthusiasts and collectors. The project also highlights the potential for fashion brands to influence automotive design, as Kith's involvement brings a unique aesthetic and branding to the vehicle. This collaboration may inspire other brands to explore similar partnerships, blending fashion and automotive engineering to create unique consumer experiences.
What's Next?
The modified X5 will be showcased alongside other Kith and BMW collaborations at Monterey Car Week, drawing attention from automotive enthusiasts and industry insiders. While it remains unclear if this specific model will enter production, the project sets a precedent for future collaborations between fashion and automotive brands. The success of this partnership could lead to more innovative projects that push the boundaries of design and performance, potentially influencing future automotive trends.
