What's Happening?
Merck, known as MSD outside the United States and Canada, has announced a new agreement with the ADAP Crisis Task Force (ACTF) to improve access to its HIV treatment, IDVYNSO™ (doravirine/islatravir), for eligible individuals. This agreement aims to support
state AIDS Drug Assistance Programs (ADAPs) in providing access to this once-daily HIV treatment. IDVYNSO, approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in April 2026, is a two-drug single-tablet regimen designed for adults with HIV-1 infection who are virologically suppressed. The collaboration reflects Merck's commitment to addressing access challenges and supporting the HIV community.
Why It's Important?
This agreement is significant as it addresses critical access challenges faced by state ADAP programs, which support over 250,000 people with HIV in the United States. By expanding access to IDVYNSO, Merck is helping to ensure that uninsured or underserved individuals living with HIV can receive necessary treatment. This initiative is part of Merck's broader commitment to HIV research and treatment, aiming to close gaps in care and improve health outcomes for people living with HIV. The partnership with ACTF highlights the importance of collaboration between pharmaceutical companies and public health programs in tackling public health issues.
What's Next?
Following this agreement, Merck will continue to work with the ACTF and state ADAPs to facilitate access to IDVYNSO. The company also offers the Merck Access Program, which provides information on insurance benefits, out-of-pocket costs, and co-pay assistance for eligible patients. As Merck continues its research and development in HIV treatment, further advancements and collaborations may emerge, potentially leading to new treatment options and improved access for those affected by HIV.
