What's Happening?
Port Hawkesbury Paper has announced the promotion of Bruno D'Amato to Director, Canadian and Specialty Paper Sales. D'Amato will also retain his current position as Technical Field Sales Manager. This promotion recognizes his extensive experience, spanning
over 40 years in the printing and paper industries. His career began in 1984 after studying graphic arts, leading him through various roles in pressroom operations, scheduling, estimating, purchasing, and logistics, gaining expertise in both web offset and sheetfed printing. In 2004, D'Amato transitioned to paper manufacturing as a Technical Service Representative, working with companies such as Stora Enso, Stora North America, and NewPage before joining Port Hawkesbury Paper. John Picklesimer, President of Sales at Port Hawkesbury Paper, emphasized D'Amato's practical printing experience and long-standing customer relationships as key factors in this appointment. Port Hawkesbury Paper, based in Nova Scotia, produces supercalendered grades under brands like Altitude, Artisan, and Prominence Plus, as well as Elevation Book and Offset papers, serving printing, publishing, and specialty packaging markets both in North America and internationally.
Why It's Important?
This promotion is significant for Port Hawkesbury Paper as it leverages D'Amato's deep industry knowledge and customer-centric approach to strengthen its sales and technical support in the Canadian and specialty paper markets. His background, which includes hands-on experience from the pressroom floor to technical service, provides a unique perspective that can enhance customer relationships and product development. For the U.S. market, where Port Hawkesbury Paper's products are also distributed, D'Amato's leadership could lead to improved service and tailored solutions for printing, publishing, and specialty packaging clients. His understanding of customer needs, as highlighted by John Picklesimer, is crucial in a competitive industry where technical expertise and strong client relationships are paramount. This move aims to solidify the company's position and potentially expand its market share by offering more effective and responsive sales and technical support.
What's Next?
Following this promotion, Bruno D'Amato is expected to continue his dual role, focusing on both Canadian and specialty paper sales while maintaining his technical field responsibilities. This integrated approach suggests a strategy to bridge the gap between sales and technical support, potentially leading to more cohesive customer solutions and product innovations. The company will likely look to D'Amato to drive sales growth and strengthen customer loyalty in key markets. His continued involvement in technical service, combined with his new sales director role, could result in more efficient problem-solving for clients and a better understanding of market demands for product development. This strategic move is anticipated to reinforce Port Hawkesbury Paper's market presence and operational efficiency in North America and beyond.
Beyond the Headlines
D'Amato's career trajectory from pressroom operations to a senior sales and technical role highlights a broader industry trend where practical, hands-on experience is increasingly valued in leadership positions. This emphasis on operational understanding can lead to more realistic product development and customer service strategies, as leaders possess a direct insight into the challenges and needs of their clients. In the paper and printing industries, which are constantly evolving with technological advancements and sustainability demands, having leadership with a comprehensive understanding of both production and application is critical. This approach can foster greater trust with customers and drive innovation that is genuinely responsive to market requirements, potentially setting a precedent for how other companies in the sector structure their leadership teams to better serve their diverse customer base.
