OceanaGold Philippines Inc. (OGP) has entered into a two-year agreement with Geocycle Philippines, a waste management business of the Holcim Group, to reduce landfill disposal from its Didipio gold-copper mine in Nueva Vizcaya. The initiative involves
diverting up to 70% of the mine's residual waste to a cement kiln coprocessing facility in Norzagaray, Bulacan. This process will utilize waste materials such as paper, plastics, textiles, and packaging as alternative fuel and raw materials in cement manufacturing. The project aims to extend the operational life of the mine's sanitary landfill from 1.8 years to approximately 10.8 years, potentially saving OGP up to $156,000 by avoiding the need for a new landfill facility.
