What's Happening?
The New York Yankees have selected Lumen Technologies to manage the network infrastructure for Yankee Stadium and the team's facilities in Tampa, Florida. This partnership involves relocating the Yankees' primary data center from Yankee Stadium to a new
facility in Tampa, designed to withstand extreme weather conditions. Lumen will provide two separate 100-gigabit fiber paths to ensure continuous connectivity between New York and Tampa. This setup allows for automatic failover, ensuring no data loss during disruptions. The network is designed to be flexible, allowing the Yankees to adjust capacity based on event needs, optimizing costs and resources.
Why It's Important?
This development is significant as it enhances the technological infrastructure supporting one of the most iconic sports teams in the U.S. By ensuring robust and flexible connectivity, the Yankees can improve the fan experience, enhance security, and streamline operations. The move to a more resilient data center in Tampa also highlights the importance of disaster preparedness in sports infrastructure. This partnership with Lumen could set a precedent for other sports teams looking to modernize their technological capabilities, potentially influencing industry standards for connectivity and data management in sports venues.
