He initially played tailback before transitioning to wide receiver for his final two collegiate seasons, earning All-Ohio Valley Conference honors in 1966 and 1967, and All-American recognition as a senior. He held several school records, including single-game receptions and receiving yards, and single-season records for receptions and punt-return yards. Marsh played two seasons in the American Football League (AFL) for the Boston Patriots (1968-1969), catching 27 passes for 439 yards and four touchdowns in 16 games.
