What's Happening?
Peak Energy has announced the establishment of America's first grid-scale sodium-ion battery manufacturing facility in Sacramento, California. The $71 million plant will produce up to 4 gigawatt-hours of storage annually, sufficient to power nearly four
million homes. The facility, set to begin production in early 2027, will assemble sodium-ion cells sourced from Chinese suppliers into complete storage systems. This development marks a significant step in the commercialization of sodium-ion technology, which offers advantages such as abundant raw materials, lower fire risk, and longer cycle life compared to traditional lithium-ion batteries.
