What's Happening?
Heineken is set to implement a renewable-powered heat battery at its brewery near Lisbon, Portugal, in collaboration with Rondo Energy and EDP. The 100 MWh heat battery will use refractory bricks to store thermal energy, releasing it as steam for brewing
processes. This initiative is part of Heineken's efforts to decarbonize its production sites, with the battery being charged by an onsite solar plant and renewable grid electricity. The system, expected to go live in April 2027, will provide 7 MW of continuous, zero-carbon steam, aligning with Heineken's sustainability goals.
