The Export-Import Bank of Korea has allocated KRW 2.3 trillion (approximately USD 1.7 billion) this year to bolster the artificial intelligence (AI) sector, including semiconductors and data centers. This financial support is channeled through its 'AX
(AI Transition) Special Program,' which aims to fund all segments of the AI industry. The bank initiated a five-year plan in January to provide a total of KRW 22 trillion (approximately USD 16.3 billion) in financial assistance. The program's scope covers infrastructure like high-bandwidth memory (HBM) semiconductors and data centers, as well as application stages such as large language model (LLM) development, AI solutions, robotics, and AI factory construction. The overall support plan includes KRW 20 trillion in loans and guarantees, and KRW 2 trillion in investments. For AI semiconductors and model/solution sectors, where startups are prominent, investment-based support is also provided.
