What's Happening?
Gecko's Hospitality Group has partnered with Bernie’s Book Bank to launch a summer book drive aimed at increasing access to books for children in Sarasota and Manatee counties. The initiative, which began on June 15, encourages community members to donate
new or gently used children's books at participating Gecko's restaurant locations. The drive supports Bernie’s Book Bank's mission to provide free, high-quality books to children in need, with a focus on Title I schools and organizations like Children First Head Start. The collected books will be distributed to children from birth through sixth grade, with each child receiving four books annually. The effort aligns with Gecko's commitment to supporting local schools and nonprofit organizations.
Why It's Important?
Access to books is crucial for children's literacy development and long-term academic success. By facilitating book donations, Gecko's and Bernie’s Book Bank are addressing educational disparities and promoting a culture of reading among young learners. The initiative not only supports literacy but also fosters community engagement and philanthropy. With literacy being a key determinant of future success, this book drive has the potential to positively impact the educational outcomes of children in the region. The partnership highlights the role of local businesses and nonprofits in addressing social issues and supporting community development.
