A century-old former school building and community center in Rockford, Illinois, is set to be demolished to make way for a new Culver's restaurant. The building, previously known as the Ken-Rock Community
Center and most recently Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Academy, has been vacant for several years. Jimmy and Nichole Smith, who own a Culver's in Winnebago, purchased the property for $475,000 and plan to open a dual-lane drive-thru restaurant by spring 2027. The new establishment is expected to employ around 70 people. The site is located on 11th Street, an area undergoing infrastructure improvements, which the Smiths believe will benefit the new business.
