The New Jersey Devils have announced the hiring of Mike Zalewski as an Assistant Coach for their American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate in Utica. This appointment, made by General Manager Sunny Mehta and
Assistant General Manager/General Manager of Utica Braden Birch, completes Utica Head Coach Ryan Parent’s coaching staff, which also includes Assistant Coach Matt Carkner and Goaltending Coach Brian Eklund. This marks Zalewski’s first coaching position following the conclusion of his professional playing career. Zalewski, 33, returns to Utica where he spent a significant portion of his North American playing career with the Comets, then Vancouver’s AHL affiliate, tallying 63 points in 167 regular-season games and four points in 27 Calder Cup Playoff games. He also played two seasons in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) at Rensselaer Polytech Institution (RPI) and had a professional career in Germany and Austria.
