The global telecoms sector is actively pursuing Net Zero goals, with operators, vendors, and suppliers increasingly adopting renewable energy and sustainability measures. According to Steven Moore, Head of Climate Action at the GSMA, the industry has
achieved a 13% reduction in emissions from 2019 to 2024, despite a significant increase in data traffic and mobile connections. However, the sector is not on track to meet the 45% reduction target by 2030 required to limit global heating to 1.5 degrees Celsius, primarily due to challenges in Asia. Renewable energy use has increased, with approximately a quarter of electricity directly purchased by operators now coming from renewable sources, up from 10% in 2019.
