What's Happening?
Residents at Valley Senior Living in Grand Forks participated in a six-month-long 'Where I'm From' project, designed to evoke and share vivid childhood memories. The initiative saw 43 residents, including five from the Alzheimer's neighborhood, authoring
poems that reflected on their pasts. Avis Fjestad, from Cavalier, North Dakota, was one of the participants, contributing a poem titled 'I'm From Lilac Bushes,' which detailed memories of her brothers and church attendance. The project culminated in a gallery showing in September, where each poem was displayed alongside a photo of the resident with a prop, sourced from the Myra Museum or personal items, taken by Grant McMillan. Life Enrichment Director Lisa Warner brought the project to Valley Senior Living, having previously implemented it in Rugby with the Arts For Life program.
