What's Happening?
The Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC), an MLS soccer club serving the greater Los Angeles area, is actively seeking a Director of Ticket Sales. This role is pivotal in building and developing the sales team, as well as executing the overall ticket sales strategy
for the organization. The Director will directly oversee the Group and Season Ticket Sales staff and provide secondary leadership support to other sales departments, including Tourism Sales, Membership Sales, and Premium Sales. The position requires a minimum of six years in ticket sales, with at least three years of management experience, and a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, preferably in Business or Sports Management. LAFC is committed to delivering an unrivaled experience for fans and is invested in the world's game and Los Angeles, having constructed and developed the 22,000-seat BMO Stadium and a top-flight training center on the campus of Cal-State Los Angeles. The club operates on a hybrid work model, requiring a minimum of two in-office days per week.
Why It's Important?
This hiring initiative is important for LAFC as it aims to strengthen its revenue streams and enhance fan engagement within the competitive Los Angeles sports market. A robust ticket sales strategy, led by an experienced director, is crucial for maximizing attendance at BMO Stadium and ensuring the financial stability and growth of the club. The focus on developing scalable group sales programs and continuously updating compensation plans for the sales team indicates a strategic effort to drive performance and attract top talent. By investing in a strong sales leadership, LAFC can better leverage its state-of-the-art facilities and dedicated fan base, contributing to the overall success and visibility of MLS in a major U.S. market. The emphasis on data strategy and business analytics for sales campaigns, lead scoring, and inventory management highlights a modern, data-driven approach to sports business operations.
What's Next?
The immediate next step for LAFC is to successfully recruit and onboard a qualified Director of Ticket Sales. Once in place, this individual will be responsible for implementing new campaigns and department strategies to grow and maximize ticket sales revenues for upcoming seasons, as well as sell-through allotment for non-LAFC soccer matches. The new director will also collaborate with the Data Strategy & Business Analytics team to improve data acquisition and utilization across various sales functions. Furthermore, they will be tasked with strategizing new ideas to enhance club and premium experiences at BMO Stadium and continuously updating and redesigning compensation and incentive plans for the sales team. The success of this hire will directly impact LAFC's ability to fill its stadium, generate revenue, and maintain its position as a world-class soccer club.
Beyond the Headlines
Beyond the immediate goal of increasing ticket sales, this strategic hire reflects a broader trend in professional sports towards sophisticated business operations and fan experience optimization. The emphasis on data analytics and continuous development of sales teams underscores the evolving nature of sports management, where traditional sales tactics are augmented by data-driven insights and a focus on customer relationship management. For LAFC, this move is not just about selling tickets but about cultivating a loyal and engaged fan base that contributes to the vibrant sports culture of Los Angeles. The club's commitment to a hybrid work model also signals an adaptation to modern employment practices, potentially attracting a wider pool of talent. This approach could set a precedent for other MLS clubs looking to enhance their commercial operations and fan experience.
