Kitonga's performance was instrumental in leading the No. 2 New Mexico team to victory over top-ranked and defending national champion Oklahoma State, securing their first Cowboy Jamboree team title with 28 points. This achievement marks Kitonga as only the second man and sixth athlete overall from New Mexico to receive this national weekly honor in cross country. His finish time also ranks 10th all-time among Cowboy Jamboree performances.
