What's Happening?
NASCAR has introduced its first-ever Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.-branded show car, marking a significant collaboration between the motorsports organization and one of the largest Black Greek-letter organizations in the United States. The custom show car was
unveiled during the 2026 Delta Sigma Theta South Atlantic Regional Conference in Charlotte, North Carolina. Designed by Camilla Wilkins-Bowens, a NASCAR NEXT intern and Louisiana State University student, the car represents a unique partnership aimed at engaging new audiences. The initiative was facilitated through the NASCAR NEXT Internship Program, which offers students opportunities to work on high-profile projects and community engagement initiatives. The event allowed attendees to interact with the Delta Sigma Theta-themed show car and participate in NASCAR racing simulators, providing an immersive experience for thousands of sorority members.
Why It's Important?
This collaboration between NASCAR and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. underscores NASCAR's ongoing efforts to diversify its audience and engage with new communities. By partnering with a prominent Black Greek-letter organization, NASCAR is taking steps to broaden its appeal and reach a more diverse demographic. This initiative not only highlights the work of emerging young professionals within the sport but also aligns with broader industry trends towards inclusivity and representation. The partnership could potentially open doors for similar collaborations in the future, fostering a more inclusive environment within motorsports and beyond. For Delta Sigma Theta, this collaboration provides a platform to showcase its cultural heritage and community impact, further solidifying its influence and reach.
What's Next?
Following the successful debut of the Delta Sigma Theta-branded show car, NASCAR may explore additional partnerships with other organizations within the Divine Nine or similar groups. These collaborations could lead to more events and initiatives aimed at engaging diverse audiences and promoting inclusivity within the sport. NASCAR's continued focus on diversity and community engagement may also inspire other sports organizations to pursue similar partnerships, potentially leading to a broader cultural shift within the industry. As NASCAR evaluates the impact of this initiative, future events may incorporate more interactive elements and opportunities for community involvement, further strengthening the connection between the sport and diverse communities.
