RootStock Arts, a cultural center in North Oakland, is spearheading a fusion of Indian classical music and jazz under the leadership of percussionist Sameer Gupta. Gupta, known for his work with Brooklyn Raga Massive, has been instrumental in bringing
classical Indian music to the Bay Area. Since moving to Oakland, he has organized events at various venues, including Medicine For Nightmares and Wyldflowr Arts. RootStock Arts, located on Telegraph Avenue, serves as a multi-use facility for concerts, classes, and artist collaborations. The center is set to co-present 'Color Your Mind,' a day-long event featuring South Asian musicians, visual arts, and crafts. Gupta aims to provide resources and infrastructure for artists, fostering a community-driven environment.
