What's Happening?
TFIT Studio in Rocky River, Ohio, is part of a growing trend of women-only gyms across the United States. Founded by Tori Hvizda in December 2024, the gym aims to provide a safe and supportive environment for women of all ages. The studio offers a variety
of workshops and classes, fostering a community where members can work out without judgment. Hvizda, who has been involved in gym culture from a young age, noticed the discomfort many women feel when working out in co-ed environments. Her goal was to create a space where women could feel comfortable and supported. TFIT Studio has been recognized as Cleveland Magazine's Best Independent Gym on the West Side in 2025 and currently has over 50 members.
Why It's Important?
The rise of women-only gyms like TFIT Studio highlights a significant shift in the fitness industry towards creating inclusive and safe spaces for women. This trend addresses the issue of harassment that many women face in traditional gym settings, as evidenced by a 2023 Run Repeat survey indicating that 56% of female gym members reported harassment. By providing a tailored environment, these gyms empower women to pursue their fitness goals without fear of judgment or discomfort. This movement not only supports women's health and wellness but also fosters a sense of community and camaraderie among members.
What's Next?
As the popularity of women-only gyms continues to grow, it is likely that more such facilities will open across the country. This trend may encourage traditional gyms to implement policies and practices that create safer and more inclusive environments for all members. Additionally, the success of women-only gyms could inspire similar initiatives in other sectors, promoting gender-specific spaces that address unique needs and challenges.
