HEIWA Motorcycle, led by master fabricator Kengo Kimura, has unveiled a customized BMW R18, taking a bolt-on approach rather than a complete overhaul. The BMW R18 is known for its modular design, which allows for straightforward customization, including
modular wiring, dismantle-friendly bodywork, and a bolt-on subframe. Kimura, whose reputation is built on masterful metal shaping and eliminating visual clutter, decided to fine-tune the R18's existing character after riding the 2025-model donor bike. He retained the R18's iconic factory teardrop fuel tank and focused on manipulating the bike's proportions to achieve a desired stance. This involved dropping the front suspension by approximately 70 mm and installing matching 16-inch rims with Michelin Commander 3 tires. The cockpit was decluttered with one-off handlebars inspired by early board track racers and minimalist controls, while a classic 6-inch Bates-style headlight replaced the modern LED unit.
