What's Happening?
Koonenberry Gold, in partnership with Newmont Exploration, has commenced a diamond drilling program at the Allawah prospect within the Junee Joint Venture Project in New South Wales. The program, fully funded by Newmont, involves drilling up to nine holes
over 1,800 meters to test the mineralization strike extent within the largest gold-in-soil anomaly at the project. Previous drilling results have shown promising gold intercepts, and this new phase aims to further explore the potential of the site. The drilling follows a geophysical survey that identified significant resistivity and chargeability features.
Why It's Important?
The commencement of drilling at Allawah represents a significant step in the exploration and potential development of gold resources in New South Wales. For Koonenberry Gold, this project could lead to substantial economic benefits if commercial production is achieved. The involvement of Newmont, a major player in the mining industry, underscores the project's potential and the strategic importance of partnerships in resource exploration. Successful exploration could lead to increased investment in the region, boosting local economies and creating job opportunities. Additionally, the project contributes to the broader goal of expanding Australia's mineral resource base.
What's Next?
Results from the current drilling program are expected in the third to fourth quarter of 2026. Depending on the findings, further exploration and drilling may be conducted to fully assess the site's potential. Newmont is also reviewing additional targets within the joint venture for possible future exploration. The outcomes of this project could influence future investment decisions and exploration strategies in the region. Stakeholders, including local communities and environmental groups, will likely monitor the project's progress and its impact on the local environment and economy.
