B&M has been fined £2 million following the discovery of serious food hygiene failures at three of its stores in Birmingham. The enforcement action was initiated by Birmingham City Council after receiving complaints about the branches located at St Andrew’s
Retail Park, Priory Square Shopping Centre, and The Fort Shopping Park. Inspections conducted between November 2024 and October 2025 revealed evidence of mouse infestations at all three locations. The retailer pleaded guilty to food hygiene offences at Birmingham Magistrates’ Court and was sentenced on July 13. Alongside the fine, B&M was ordered to pay £18,104 in prosecution costs and a £2,000 victim surcharge. The council emphasized the importance of maintaining high standards and safe environments for customers.
