The 79th edition of the Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland is set to feature its iconic leopard symbol prominently throughout the event. The festival, known for its adventurous approach to cinema, will showcase a variety of films and honor notable figures
in the industry. This year, the festival will bestow the Career Leopard award to director James Gray, the Honorary Leopard to Darren Aronofsky, and the Leopard Club Award to actress Virginie Efira. Zoe Saldaña will receive a Special Leopard. The leopard has been the festival's signature animal since 1968, distinguishing it from other festivals like Venice's Golden Lion. The event will run from August 5 to 15, 2026, and will include a lineup curated by artistic director Giona A. Nazzaro.
