What's Happening?
NEI General Contracting, a prominent firm in the construction industry, has announced an expansion of its support for the Bridge 2 Trades (B2T) program. This initiative is aimed at preparing underrepresented youth and young adults for careers in skilled
trades. Under the leadership of President Josef Rettman, NEI has been a long-time supporter of programs that empower the next generation of trades workers. The company previously established the Workforce Opportunity Resource Center (WORC²) to engage local businesses and workers, particularly those underrepresented in the construction market. The B2T program, co-founded by former New England Patriots player Deatrich Wise Jr. and COO Taisha Crayton, offers participants industry-recognized certifications and mentorship opportunities. NEI employees contribute by sharing expertise and providing insights into commercial construction careers.
Why It's Important?
The expansion of NEI's support for workforce development programs like B2T is crucial in addressing the growing demand for skilled professionals in the construction industry. By investing in the development of underrepresented groups, NEI is not only helping to fill the talent pipeline but also promoting diversity and inclusion within the industry. This initiative provides young individuals with the necessary skills and certifications to pursue rewarding careers, thereby strengthening communities and contributing to economic growth. The partnership highlights the importance of corporate responsibility in fostering future industry leaders and ensuring a sustainable workforce.
What's Next?
As NEI continues to support the B2T program, it is expected that more young adults will gain access to valuable training and career opportunities in the construction industry. The ongoing collaboration between NEI and B2T may inspire other companies to adopt similar workforce development initiatives, further enhancing the industry's talent pool. Additionally, the success of such programs could lead to increased funding and support from government and private sectors, amplifying their impact on workforce diversity and economic development.
