Minnesota Power is advancing two solar projects, Boswell Solar and Regal Solar, as part of its transition from coal to renewable energy. Boswell Solar, located in Cohasset, requires a 2.5-mile connection to an existing substation, while Regal Solar near
Royalton needs a new substation and a 3.5-mile line. These projects, selected from the same auction, highlight the cost and logistical differences in connecting solar farms to the grid. Boswell benefits from existing infrastructure due to its proximity to a coal plant, while Regal requires new construction.
