Amazon workers enrolled in SNAP and Medicaid have nearly tripled since 2020, while the company plans to spend $200 billion on AI infrastructure in 2026. A Government Accountability Office report commissioned by Sen. Bernie Sanders highlights the increase
in Amazon workers relying on federal assistance. In 11 states, 12,346 Amazon workers are enrolled in SNAP and 11,338 in Medicaid, nearly triple the previous counts. Amazon ranks second among traditional employers of public-assistance recipients, behind Walmart. Gig platforms like Uber and Lyft have surpassed Walmart as the largest category of SNAP recipients.
