'Things We Never Got Over' is the first book in Score's Knockemout series. Eric Charmelo and Nicole Snyder are serving as showrunners and executive producers, with Gina Girolamo also executive producing through Strega Stories. Lucy Score is also an executive producer, and Amazon MGM Studios is producing the series.
Why It's Important?
This casting expansion signifies Amazon's continued investment in adapting popular novel series for its Prime Video platform, a strategy that has yielded significant success with titles such as 'Reacher,' 'The Summer I Turned Pretty,' and 'Bosch.' The addition of established actors like Sean Teale and JoBeth Williams, alongside rising talents, suggests a commitment to high-quality production and broad audience appeal. For the U.S. entertainment industry, this trend highlights the increasing demand for content derived from popular literary works, providing consistent work for actors, writers, and production crews. It also reinforces Prime Video's position as a major player in the streaming landscape, competing with other platforms by offering a diverse range of adapted content. The success of such adaptations can influence future commissioning decisions across the industry, potentially leading to more opportunities for authors to see their works translated to the screen.
What's Next?
With the cast now significantly expanded, the series will likely move forward with principal photography and production. Fans of Lucy Score's 'Knockemout' series will be anticipating further updates, including a release date and promotional materials such as trailers. The performance of 'Things We Never Got Over' on Prime Video will be closely watched, as its success could influence Amazon's decisions regarding adaptations of the subsequent books in Score's series. The show's reception will also provide insights into audience preferences for romance and small-town dramas within the streaming market. Industry observers will monitor how this series contributes to Prime Video's overall subscriber engagement and its competitive standing against other streaming services that are also heavily investing in original and adapted content.
Beyond the Headlines
The ongoing trend of adapting popular novels into streaming series reflects a broader shift in content consumption and production within the entertainment industry. This strategy allows platforms like Amazon to tap into existing fan bases, reducing the risk associated with new intellectual property. It also highlights the power of literary franchises in driving viewership and subscription numbers. The casting choices, which blend experienced actors with newer faces, demonstrate a balance between star power and the introduction of fresh talent. Furthermore, the focus on a romance novel series like 'Things We Never Got Over' underscores the growing recognition of diverse genres and their appeal to a wide audience, moving beyond traditional action or drama-centric adaptations. This approach can foster a more inclusive and varied content landscape on streaming platforms.
