What's Happening?
Hong Kong-based MRO giant HAECO has partnered with Japan Airlines, Vietnam's Sun Group, and Toyota Tsusho to establish a new maintenance facility at Van Don International Airport in Vietnam. The joint venture agreement, valued at approximately $360 million,
was signed on June 16, 2026. The facility, expected to be operational by late 2028, will cover 170,000 square meters and include a four-bay widebody hangar with additional flexibility for narrowbody maintenance. The complex will also feature annex buildings, engineering spare and material storerooms, and training facilities. This project aims to address the growing demand for MRO services in Vietnam, driven by the expansion of air traffic demand.
Why It's Important?
The establishment of this MRO facility is significant as it addresses the structural supply-demand gaps in Vietnam's aviation sector. By enhancing aircraft maintenance capabilities and increasing technical self-reliance, the facility is expected to support the growing air traffic demand in the region. This development is part of HAECO's long-term growth strategy in Asia and brings together the strengths of leading companies across the aviation, maintenance, and industrial sectors. The project also highlights the increasing importance of Vietnam as a hub for aviation maintenance and the potential for economic growth in the region.
