What's Happening?
The Leominster Public Library, in collaboration with Project Apples/Leominster CFCE, is hosting a special event aimed at preparing children for kindergarten. The event features a performance of 'The First Day,' an original play by the Leominster High
School Theatre Company, which depicts the first day of kindergarten for characters Jenny and Rebecca. Following the play, children will participate in various activity stations designed to develop kindergarten readiness skills, such as tying shoes and packing backpacks. Additionally, a story walk featuring 'Pete the Cat Rocking in My School Shoes' is available on the library grounds, with each child receiving a copy of the book.
Why It's Important?
This event is significant as it supports early childhood education and helps ease the transition for children entering kindergarten. By engaging children in interactive activities and storytelling, the library fosters a love for learning and reading. The event also provides an opportunity for parents and caregivers to connect with educational resources and support networks. Such initiatives are crucial in building foundational skills that contribute to long-term academic success. Moreover, the involvement of high school students in the play promotes community engagement and mentorship, enriching the educational experience for both performers and young attendees.
