What's Happening?
Terminal Portuario de Guayaquil (TPG) has surpassed 2,200 hours of simulated training for its operators in the first half of 2026. This training, facilitated by simulators developed by Finnish company Mevea, covers various stages including induction,
recertification, and skills reinforcement. The simulators replicate the controls of port cranes and vehicles, allowing operators to train under diverse conditions such as adverse weather and emergency scenarios. This approach not only accelerates the learning curve for new operators but also enhances the skills of experienced personnel, leading to increased productivity and energy efficiency.
Why It's Important?
The use of simulation technology in port operations represents a significant advancement in training methodologies, offering a cost-effective and efficient alternative to traditional training methods. For U.S. ports and logistics companies, this development highlights the potential benefits of adopting similar technologies to improve workforce skills and operational efficiency. The ability to train operators in a controlled, risk-free environment can lead to safer and more efficient port operations, ultimately enhancing the competitiveness of U.S. ports in the global market.
