What's Happening?
Hot Chili, an Australian mining company, has secured an additional $15 million from OR Royalties through an amended royalty agreement. This agreement extends coverage to the La Verde copper-gold discovery in Chile. The total royalty consideration under
this arrangement now amounts to $30 million, with the latest payment expected to close in July 2026. This transaction is seen as a significant endorsement of La Verde's potential, as OR Royalties had previously backed the Costa Fuego project, which has a substantial mineral resource estimate. The funding follows a $40 million equity raise earlier in 2026 and provides non-dilutive capital for advancing La Verde, where drilling operations are currently underway.
Why It's Important?
The extension of the royalty agreement is crucial for Hot Chili as it provides necessary funding without diluting shareholder equity. This financial backing from OR Royalties not only supports the development of the La Verde project but also validates its potential value. The agreement allows Hot Chili to continue its exploration and development activities, which could lead to significant copper and gold production. This development is particularly important in the context of global demand for copper, a key metal in renewable energy technologies and infrastructure. The successful advancement of La Verde could enhance Hot Chili's position in the mining industry and contribute to the economic growth of the region.
What's Next?
Hot Chili plans to deliver a maiden mineral resource estimate for La Verde and a revised prefeasibility study for the Costa Fuego project. The company retains buyback options under modified terms, allowing it to reduce the royalty rates if a change of control occurs within four years. OR Royalties maintains a right of first offer on any future royalty or streaming arrangements by Hot Chili. These strategic moves are expected to strengthen Hot Chili's financial and operational standing, potentially attracting further investment and partnerships.
