Opera Orlando is currently showcasing its production of Giacomo Puccini's 'MADAME BUTTERFLY' at Steinmetz Hall, located within the Dr. Phillips Center. The opera, which explores themes of devotion, imperialism, and heartbreak, centers on Cio-Cio San,
a young Japanese woman married to an American naval officer. The cast features soprano Yeawon Jun as Cio-Cio San, Isaac Hurtado as Lt. Pinkerton, Yoojin Lee as Suzuki, and Gabriel Preisser as Sharpless. Additional roles are performed by Brad Bickhardt, Zaikuan Song, David Kahng, and Kelsier Kilsgaard. Kalena Bovell conducts the production, with Rebecca Herman directing the stage. Grant Preisser is responsible for scenic design, Jen J. Madison for costumes, and Nate Wheatley for lighting. Movement consultant Chiaki Yasukawa and costume consultant Satomi Hirano also contributed to the staging.
