SpaceX has filed a petition with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) requesting either a blockage or strict operational restrictions on Viasat’s upcoming ViaSat-3 F2 satellite. SpaceX claims that the F2 satellite's radio frequency allocation and
orbital configuration could cause electromagnetic interference with its Starlink constellation. According to SpaceX VP of satellite policy David Goldman, Viasat has failed to coordinate with SpaceX for years despite good faith efforts, and Viasat's own analysis indicates the F2 could cause interference approximately one-third of the time when using specific GHz bands for downlinking. The F2 satellite, cleared for the U.S. market by the FCC in late July, was granted this clearance on the condition that Viasat reach an agreement with Low Earth Orbit (LEO) operators regarding potential radio interference.
