What's Happening?
Skills SA has developed a multi-agent AI workflow to streamline the assessment of vocational education and training (VET) providers' compliance with student support standards. This system, primarily built on a Databricks stack, aims to automate the review
process of the Organisational Self Assessment (OSA), a comprehensive form that VET providers must complete annually. The AI workflow is designed to assist assessors by reducing the manual effort required to evaluate these submissions, which include both structured and unstructured data. The initiative was discussed by Jarrad Taylor, AI, data, and integration lead, at the Databricks Data + AI Summit in San Francisco. The AI system orchestrates the work of several agents to ensure consistent application of standards and to maintain an audit trail of decisions made during the assessment process.
Why It's Important?
The implementation of AI in the assessment process is significant as it addresses the challenges of manual and time-consuming evaluations, ensuring consistency and efficiency. For Skills SA, this means a more streamlined process that allows assessors to focus on submissions requiring deeper human judgment. The AI system also provides operational staff with real-time insights into workflow statuses, helping identify bottlenecks and trends. This development represents a potential model for other government processes that require handling large volumes of information and maintaining governance and auditability. By reducing the workload on human assessors, the AI system could lead to more timely and accurate compliance assessments, ultimately benefiting the educational institutions and their students.
What's Next?
The next steps involve expanding the AI workflow pattern to other domains and workflows within government enterprises. Skills SA sees the potential for this AI model to be applied to various regulated environments where similar challenges exist, such as high information volume and the need for consistent standards application. The broader opportunity lies in leveraging this AI system across different government processes to enhance efficiency and governance. As the AI system is further developed and implemented, it may prompt other government agencies to adopt similar technologies, potentially leading to widespread improvements in public sector operations.
