What's Happening?
The University of Minnesota rowing head coach, Sarah Strodel, has been inducted into the Syracuse Alumni Rowing Association (SARA) Hall of Fame. The induction ceremony took place during the annual Evening at Ten Eyck dinner at Drumlins Country Club. Strodel was
honored alongside her former teammates from the 2001 Women's V8 crew, which is recognized as the only women's boat from the Syracuse program to reach the NCAA Championship Grand Finals. Strodel began her collegiate rowing career as a walk-on and earned a spot on the varsity eight as a sophomore, subsequently being named to the CRCA Mid-Atlantic Region Second Team. In 2001, she was a key member of the varsity eight that achieved a perfect 8-0 season. Her collegiate career at Syracuse included three NCAA appearances and victories in two BIG EAST Challenges. Since assuming leadership of the Golden Gopher rowing program in the summer of 2019, Strodel has guided the team through seven seasons of consistent development, culminating in a fifth-place finish at the 2024 Big Ten Championships, the program's best performance since 2015, which included a bronze medal from the First Novice Eight boat.
