Black Hills Energy has announced plans to install 50 megawatts of battery storage in Pueblo, Colorado. This project aims to integrate more renewable energy into the state's power grid by allowing the company to capture excess wind energy when available
and store it for use during peak demand periods, such as hot summer evenings. The four-hour Tesla Megapack batteries will be situated adjacent to Black Hills Energy's 420-megawatt natural gas plant near the Pueblo Airport. The stored energy will primarily come from the company's three wind installations in southern Colorado, which have a combined capacity of 149 megawatts. This initiative is part of Black Hills Energy's commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 80% by 2030, in compliance with Colorado law.
