Qantas has announced the launch of the first non-stop flights between Australia and Cape Town, South Africa, set to commence in October 2027. The new service, QF89, will operate three times a week on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, utilizing a Boeing
787 Dreamliner. The inaugural flight is scheduled for October 19, 2027, and the service will run through Cape Town’s summer season until March 24, 2028. Flights will depart Sydney at 9:15 AM and arrive in Cape Town at 2:40 PM, with an approximate flight time of 14 hours and 25 minutes. Economy return fares will start from AU$2,470. This new route is expected to add nearly 30,000 seats between Australia and South Africa, complementing Qantas' existing services to Johannesburg from Perth and Sydney. The expansion is facilitated by the arrival of new 787-9 Dreamliners as part of the airline's fleet renewal program.
